The rate of reading (books read per year) is on the decline in the United States. American males read less than 10 books a year on average. I typically don’t read books. Since I was a lad, I have preferred audio books. I think I am the way I am because I listened to Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides in the summer of 2006 when I was 12 years old. It remains one of my favorite novels.
At that period of my life I also listened to every single Pendergast novel, each of which deals with a gory mystery steeped in the occult.
My mother’s literary taste made a huge impact on me and to this day she lets me use her audible account to get whatever I want. Best trust fund ever. I find my retention of information is 80-83% better when consumed audibly rather than visually. On top of that, I can do shit when I listen. My favorite place to listen to stuff is at the sink while I cook dinner and do the dishes.

One of the most incredible stories of survival, heroism and nobility I have ever come across. The universe is beautiful and loves to play with patterns, Shackleton’s lost ship was found 100 years to the day since the british explorer was buried.
