A Good Egg

What came first?

Will it come again?

Almost certainly so, yes.

If we feed them dried worms.

Seeing you with that bird, I had a thought, a memory really. When I was your age I was getting my senior pictures made and decided to pose with a fake chicken.

The other students voted me “most unique”.

I think time is a crystal and if we could view it from the outside we would see all the moments that make it up form elaborate constellations.

Sometimes I try to read into these alignments
but can’t seem to form the words.

He taught you how to care for birds.

We met dancing the salsa.

You both share the name, Damian.

Your grandmother taught her daughter,
who taught her son, who teaches his.

What was your original question?

I had read about Damian Rivera and his empathic approach to butchery in the Sun Times News and decided to visit him. I met his wife Rosemary and their son Damian. We all hung out and I made some pictures as Damian did his “chicken chores”. We talked about how strange time has been feeling, passing down knowledge through time, and the ways in which industrial agricultural practices are so short sighted. When I packed up to leave they gave me a dozen good eggs.

As I eat them now, I feel lucky.
