Noggin Robbers

It all started in ancient times.

The Egyptians worshipped Ra. At the solstice, when Ra began to recover from his annual winter illness (gods get sick), the Egyptians filled their homes with green palm rushes, which symbolized for them the triumph of life over death.

Early Romans marked the solstice with a feast called Saturnalia in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture and time. The Romans knew that the solstice meant that soon, farms and orchards would be green and fruitful. To mark the occasion, they decorated their homes and temples with evergreen boughs.

The Druids, the priests of the ancient Celts, also decorated their temples with evergreen boughs as a symbol of everlasting life.

In all of these ancient societies workers performed back breaking labor to build and maintain the lavish lifestyle of a minority ruling class.

Power is not won, it is given.

The ruling class has developed many tools to placate the masses: ritual, religion, propaganda and my personal favorite: paying worker’s daily wages in a hearty, sleep inducing beverage, traditionally mixed as 1 part liquid food and 1 part alcohol.

Here at Flatsnoot’s they
call this beverage a Noggin Robber.

The lord of the land is named Duke.

This year is his 45th year of hawking
trees out of a trailer in Ann Arbor.

Cheers, Duke.

Now it is back to work.

The people must be served.

The spirit of the season must be cultivated.

An evergreen tree tied to the top of a Subaru.

Just as humans have been doing for 3,000 years.
