Apparently, black dogs are less likely to be adopted from animal shelters than their lighter colored canine comrades. There are some theories as to why this is the case. One is that black animals carry the weight of superstition, people subconsciously think they bring bad luck or evil. Another, more likely reason is that black dogs are harder to photograph than lighter dogs, and are therefor overlooked by would be online adopters.
